Throughout my time as a Business Owner and Life Coach I’ve been fortunate enough to get to know many highly successful people and learn from them.
The more time I spent with these people the more I realized that they all have similar things in common –similar traits if you will. Based on my observations I compiled a list of attributes I’ve noticed successful people have in the hopes that it will help you on your own journey toward achieving personal success.
Here are 8 things all highly successful people have in common:
1. They keep their eyes on the prize
Achieving success comes with its own set of headaches. Things go wrong, people get angry, feelings get hurt, you fail, you succeed, and you fail again. It is the people who keep their eyes on the prize and refuse to let anything (or anyone) dissuade them that accomplish their goals. How many times have you been discouraged or lost motivation? Keep your eyes on the prize, don’t fall prey to distraction or temptation and you will reach your goals.
“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” – Theodore Roosevelt
2. They’re extremely passionate
Scenario 1: you work a job you dislike solely to pay the bills. Scenario 2: you wake up every day and set out to turn your interests, what you love doing, into a career. In which situation will you work harder? Exactly, those that pursue their passions will work far harder to turn their dream into a reality because they believe in what they are doing. Having a sense of purpose is a powerful tool that can be used to help you remain focused and motivated. If you take anything away from this article it’s that if you are to be successful you must be passionate about what you are doing.
3. They have insane work ethic
When you’re sleeping in they are hustling. When you’re on vacation they’re grinding away. When you feel satisfied -they’re just getting started. You don’t get to the top by being lazy. The itineraries of the extremely successful would make most people’s head explode. However that’s exactly why these people are at the top of their field. If you aspire to be successful, if you have the opportunity to make something of yourself, don’t squander it. Put everything you have into accomplishing your goals. Turn your dreams into reality by working harder than the next person.
4. They surround themselves with like-minded people
Have you ever heard of the expression “you are the average of all the people you surround yourself with?” Successful people take this saying to heart. They build a supportive network of like-minded contemporaries that they can rely on and who understand what they are going through. The benefits of this are immense. From networking to problem solving. Surrounding yourself with good people will increase your chances of becoming successful tenfold.
5. They are problem solvers
Successful people do not give up or give in when faced with obstacles or setbacks. Instead of becoming discouraged they simply find a way to solve or circumnavigate problems so as to get back to accomplishing their goals. If you ever find yourself facing a difficult problem try tackling it from a new perspective, ask someone you trust to give you their input, or try brainstorming out-of-the-box solutions. Learn how to solve problems and you will find that setbacks no longer seem so insurmountable
6. They provide value
Would you purchase a product that was of little to no value to you? Of course you wouldn’t. Conversely, would you buy something that improved your life and was of great value to you? Absolutely you would. One of the most effective ways to become successful is to provide something of value. Be it a service, a product, or a solution if you can provide something of value to people they will invest, they will purchase, and they will consume what you are offering. Look at any successful business, what do they do? They provide a service or product that fulfills a want or need. If you want to be successful provide value.
7. They are innovative
What do Brian Chesky, Mark Zuckerberg, Garrett Camp, and Nick Woodman all have in common? Aside from being billionaires each of these individuals revolutionized their respective industry. They took pre-existing industries and disrupted/improved upon them with their innovative companies. GoPro revolutionized the way we capture important moments. Airbnb changed the way we travel. Facebook changed the way we interact with one another. Uber revolutionized modern transportation. The ability to examine a problem or even an entire industry and affect meaningful change through innovation is a major skillset that the world’s most successful individuals possess.
“Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable.” – William Pollard
8. They believe in themselves
Most importantly they believe in themselves and their mission. No one ever accomplished anything great by giving up. Having unwavering belief in yourself and your capabilities is an integral part of achieving success. People are going to question your abilities, you are going to fail, you will make mistakes, but if you maintain faith in yourself you’ll find that none of that matters. At the end of the day you’ll accomplish your goals just like you knew you would.
